**Duration:** April 2018-April 2021 (36 months)

**Total funding:** 452 000 PLN

**Host institution:** IMPAN in Warsaw

**Grant number:** 2017/26/D/ST1/00913 (SONATA 13)

The project is devoted to the study of **families of algebraic varieties**, with applications to both classical complex algebraic geometry and arithmetic geometry in mind. The two complementary directions concern **deformation theory** and the **topology of degenerations**. The more specific goals belong into four groups:

- Topological aspects of logarithmic geometry
- Deformation theory in positive characteristic
- Deformation theory of zero-dimensional schemes
- Serre–Tate theory for Calabi–Yau varieties and liftings of Frobenius.
